My honda four wheeler brakes squeak badly and I don't know how to fix it I changed the brake pads ?

I think what it is is the back brakes ain't releasing like they should but don't know how to fix itMy honda four wheeler brakes squeak badly and I don%26039;t know how to fix it I changed the brake pads ?
I used grooved brake pads they push out mud and water EBC brand. You may have rust in the claipers or on the rotors try some brake cleaner spray then apply them real hard to remove any rust or glazing from heat.

How do you change the brake pads and rotors on a 2003 chevy cavalier?

I know that i can go buy a book at an auto parts store but i was just hoping that someone here could give me step by step instructions on how to do it. I wont be doing it by myself. My boyfriend is a mechanic and he's going to be helping me, but i'd really prefer to not look like a complete idiot.

i'd really really appreciate whatever help you could give me.

and a slight secondary question: (i understand that i am being exceptionally sexist here but...) i assume most of the answerers of this question will be male, so how would you want your girlfriend to repay you for working on her car?How do you change the brake pads and rotors on a 2003 chevy cavalier?
simple...jack the car up, put jack stands under and remove jack. then take off the front wheels to expose the rotors and caliper. there should be 2 bolts behind the caliper that hold it onto the bracket. take the bottom one out and swivel the caliper up and tie it to the control arm with some wire. then the pads should be exposed and you can just take them out. take out and clean everything with brake cleaner and wire brush, but wear a dust mask because the dust can be carcinogenic. to get the rotors off, take the caliper bracket off..there will be 2 bolts on the back of it. remove both and it will come off easily. then there should be 2 screws that hold the rotor onto the hub. use an impact driver, you can buy it auto zone or maybe Lowe's..(its a heavy duty screw driver that you hit with a hammer on the end and it turns out screws that are really tight without stripping the head., costs like 10 bucks)..then take both screws out and the rotor should come right off...then put new rotor on or have your old one machined and put the screws back in with the impact driver..put the caliper bracket on, then then the brake pads, but put anti squeal compound on the back of them then put them on bracket, then swivel caliper down, lube the hardware, and put ant sieze compunt on the threads of the bolts, then torque to propper specs. next you should bleed your brakes..buthat'sts not 100necessary.How do you change the brake pads and rotors on a 2003 chevy cavalier?

I have changed the pads and rotors many times now, and it is now easy to list step by step instructions on here, there are quite a few, but you could try googling it, and I am sure you will come up with some good hints and tips to doing it. If you have someone helping you then just ask what you can do to make it easier for him, it might be even throwing him wrenches (not litarally, getting the wrenches he needs if he doesent have them already) I am sure you could do that!

A good way to repay me (well say it was me) would be just a really meaning ful %26quot;Thank You%26quot; I am not talking about a BJ or anything, just a Thank You, but other guys might be expecting a BJ or sommething, I just enjoy working on cars so it isint a big deal, and I espically love working on my girl friends car. Sometimes a BJ is given in thanks, ther is no way I am going to tell her no for that lol!!

A haynes manual costs about $20 and will help you learn most any repair aspects on your vehicle.

But for now, remove wheel, take off 2 hex head or torx head bolts on inside of caliper. Caliper slides off and both pads pop out. Push piston (behind one of the pads) back in to accommodate thickness in new pads. Pop off grease cap in middle of rotor. Pull cotter pin (keeps bolt from turning) loosen bolt. Pull rotor off. Pack grease into new bearings, and reinstall with new rotor, tighten bolt and install NEW cotter pin. Slide caliper back on, tighten hex heads and install wheel.

Take bf to Applebees for dinner. How do i change the brake pads and rotors on a 2003 chevy cavalier?
take the tire off, remove the caliper and bracket, remove old pads and rotor, compress caliper with c-clamp or large pliers. CLEAN AND LUBE all friction areas ( where the pads touch the calipers and brackets, not on rotor however i clean and lube where the hub meets the rotor), put on new parts and reassemble. very easy for a mechanic, maybe you should just sit back and watch him this time and be sure to ask questions and make him feel like you needed him. i mean after all he is saving you a couple hundred bucks probably. as for repaying him..... wow what a concept.... uhh....how about a six pack and a cutchie coupon. How do i change the brake pads and rotors on a 2003 chevy cavalier?
As for repaying the boyfriend, use your imagination !!! Best idea to start is to get some plastic gloves you can use. You will get dirty doing brakes. Remove the wheel and please remember to chock the wheels. You will see the caliper setting near the top and spray it with brake cleaner as you will be handling it a lot. Clean it good and give it a minute to dry. While waiting go under the hood and remove the top off the brake fluid reservoir. If it is just a screw cap on top then just loosen it well. The caliper that you have cleaned will have two bolts to hold them on. Remove them and pull caliper off the rotor. There is a cover in the center of the roter. Called a grease cap. Remove and there is a large nut with a cotter pin running through it. Straighten the pin and remove. Take large pliers and open them up to fit the nut. Remove the nut and the rotor will slide off. Put the new rotor on and replace the nut AND the cotter pin. If pin is old then buy a new one. Only pennies. Put the grease cap back on and you are in business. Now you will need a c-clamp to work on the new pads in the caliper. Attach clamp to the outside and the center of the brake pad. Slowly tighten the clamp and it will push old pads apart because new pads will be thicker. This is why you took the top off the fluid resivior to relieve the pressure. Replace the pads and you are ready to put the caliper back on. After alligning caliper then replace the bolts. STOP and before you do anything else replace any fluid you may need and put the cover back on the resivior. You did great and now ask the boyfriend to put the wheel back on. It's heavy and you are a girl !!! Come to think of it , cherry cheesecake is nice if served in the right place.....How do i change the brake pads and rotors on a 2003 chevy cavalier?

  • What needs to be fixed to fix entire brake system?

I have 86' hyundai Pony and the brake doesn't work.. When the pedal is pressed, i feel no pressure... I believe there is no brake at all....

    What needs to be fixed?

    -Brake bleed?

    -Change pads???

Please list and if possible DIY would be much appreciated, and the cost of the parts and how much to fix it at the mechanics. What needs to be fixed to fix entire brake system?
The word %26quot;entire%26quot; means %26quot;everything%26quot;, so you need to fix everything that is not working! This means that one part could be problem, or a lot of parts, but most likely not all parts!

Is the reservoir full of brake fluid?-- Really! -- Some people don't check to see! It could be a broken hose or brake line, - check underneath around wheel areas on inner side of wheels, and look for %26quot;wet%26quot; spots, -- leaking fluid makes fresh %26quot;wet looking spots%26quot;! It could be master cylinder! It could also be one of brake calipers, - so there are lots of things to check over Most anybody with mechanical aptitude and a little experience should be able to check whole thing out for leaks in about 5 minutes!

And I have seen people who drive till worn out pads finally %26quot;eat out%26quot; brake discs to point that the brake pad plate falls out of the hole, and piston comes out and shoots all the fluid out of the caliper ! So think about things in past before they went totally dead, -- this information will help mechanic get to problem quicker! What needs to be fixed to fix entire brake system?
you have a broken brake line or a bad wheel cyclinder or calioer..check master cylinder fluid level hard to cost out repair good luckWhat needs to be fixed to fix entire brake system?
Leo, you're going about this all wrong. Your question is really unanswerable. The way to do this is, go get an estimate from a reliable shop. They will tell you in writing what is being replaced in that estimate. You can use that in your list of things that need doing. Then, you can beg, borrow or buy a shop manual. You can look in there and see what's involved in doing brake repairs. You can then decide if you think you can do it yourself. Don't forget to factor in tools, time, a place to do the work, and maybe having to buy parts twice due to your making mistakes. Also, you have to consider the extremely important job brakes do on the car, and decide if you're wiling to trust your life and that of others while you learn how to fix cars. Then you can make a decision. Good luck.

How do you change the brake pads on a 1993 Subaru Legacy, and what tools do you need?

I dont have alot of knowledge about cars, and I dont want the horror of the Just Brakes Scam... I think It would just be easier, and save me money if I do it myself...

What tools do I need? Can I use a regular jack that i would use to fix a flat tire? Do I have to use grease or anything? How do I know I put them on right... Do I have a wheel drum, or disk brakes... I Know the Mechanics look for women like me, and i just want to nip it in the butt and take care of it! Please Help..I need detailed instructions! =) Thanks,How do you change the brake pads on a 1993 Subaru Legacy, and what tools do you need?
Go to the library and look in a good auto repair manual like Chiltons. Study the part on your car's brakes and get a good understanding of how the parts relate to each other. If you are confused after that, bite the bullet and don't try to do your brakes- go to a shop. The book will tell you what to do in normal circumstances, but there is potential for many other conditions to exist. If you still want to do the job badly enough, get together with someone who has worked onbrakes and will be eble to judge what's right and what's odd and unusual. Gremlins always prey on novices.

You need a set of metric wrenches, a jack, a pair of jack stands- or at least one jack stand and a couple of wheel chocks to keep the car from rolling while jacked up, some pliers, a brake spoon or large screwdriver. When you take the wheel off you will see a brake disk or drum. Chiltons will show you what you have. Get some fresh brake fluid to use to flush and bleed the brake lines.

There shouldn't be unusual difficulty unless the brakes are worn out and have scored a drum or disk. It's easy to lie to somebody about their brakes when they have no experience. Not every shop is staffed by liars, but it is worth being a little concerned about. You can save a couple hundred bucks doing the brakes- or wind up spending that and more if you try, then mess things up.

There's really too much to say about fixing brakes to be thorough in a forum like this. How do you change the brake pads on a 1993 Subaru Legacy, and what tools do you need?
To prevent buildup of condensation in the lines and subsequent corrosion, the lines should be flushed every couple of years. Brake fluid will absorb water from the atmosphere. You'll not regret having the book- knowledge is power.

    - Good Luck!I nedd to know how to change the rear brake pads on my 1996 chevy corsica?
well if i remember correctly, there are no brake pads on the rear of a corsica, it has drum brakes in the back...

therefore it has brake shoes...I nedd to know how to change the rear brake pads on my 1996 chevy corsica?
yeah if it has brake shoes then its gonna be kinda hard if you dont know what to do and how to do it cause its got a bunch of springs that have some tension and if you take it apart and dont know exactly how to put it back together then your gonna spend all night trying to fix it. if its pads then just take off one of the bolts that holds the caliper on and swing the caliper out of the way and compress the piston with a clamp and then install everything back. good luck best thing i could tell you is to get a book on your car from autozone and read up on it. the book gives you a step by step breakdown.I nedd to know how to change the rear brake pads on my 1996 chevy corsica?
    At many auto parts stores you can buy a Haynes or Chilton's do-it-yourself manual for your model car, with step-by-step instructions, and basic explanations at the beginning of each chapter. If it is not in stock, you can order it online by searching on %26quot;auto repair manuals%26quot; on Yahoo search. In the front is a section on %26quot;Troubleshooting%26quot; that guides you step-by-step to find causes of most engine malfunctions based on the car's symptoms. Whether you do the work yourself or not, it helps you make informed decisions and not be taken advantage of, and to not feel so %26quot;in the dark.%26quot;

db667089 says: you can check http://www.alldatadiy.com. For about the same price as a Haynes or Chilton's repair manual, you can have online access (for a whole year) to model specific info for your particular vehicle. This is the same info that repair shops use. They have great wiring schematics/diagrams.

Also, for about $15 for a one-month subscription, you can get the factory manual, downloadable (careful! Mine was about 500 pages!) or viewable, at http://eAutoRepair.com.

Also, many people recommend autozone.com's free online manuals.

How to change front and back brake pads and rotors on a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0?

I need a link to a tutorial, or any inside knowledge that could be posted on a step by step process, hopefully with pictures on how to change these out. Everywhere I read is you need a special tool and that you should stay away from doing it yourself because of the difficulty, but i do not want to spend $800 on a brake job. So if anyone has ever done this please let me know what you recommend. I have a friend that is very mechanically inclined, and has changed brakes on every American made vehicle, so I am hoping this tutorial could help us both in installing these. How to change front and back brake pads and rotors on a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0?
The front brakes are just like any other car. Two allen bolts holding the caliper on to the caliper bracket. Then two 18mm bolts holding the caliper bracket on.

The rear brakes will be difficult for you. You will need a special tool that screws the caliper piston back into the caliper. Besides that you need a thin 15mm wrench and a 13mm wrench to loosen the caliper. The bracket does not need to come off. You can sneak the rotor out.How to change front and back brake pads and rotors on a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0?
I suggest a Robert Bentley Manual for your model.Especially if you're going to do more work on the car in the future. Maybe Amazon has them.

Its not at all difficult. Just some minor differences from USA cars. Years ago, my son and I changed the brakes on my 2000 GTI.

We didnt crash on the test drive, so I guess we did OK

However, I strongly recommend Genuine VW parts. There is a difference.

im gonna get down to the point, I need to replace my wifes brake pads on her altima rear brakes, lol :( she has worn them down to the metal, and is not driving the car until i get them fixed, how do i fix them? I mean where is a good tutorial video that I can get to show me, also I dont think it would be hard because your just changing the brake pads thats it!!! And its not like its hard to get to them, my friend has replaced them before, I would just like to know what tools I need and a great video or link to show me how to do it, thanks everybody03 Altima 2.5s brake pad change?
A couple of notes: If she ran the pads to the metal your rotors are ruined beyond repair Buy only American Or Canadian brake rotors. Wagner, AC Delco or EBC. Pads: Wagner Quiet stop, EBC Green Stuff, Or any top brand ceramic pad. Your right you and I could do this job in two hours. It's too simple not to do yourself. Go to the library and in The Motors, or Chilton's books mimeograph the descriptions and pictures. You need to decide if your willing to buy some good quality metric tools. A 3/8 ratchet and a strip of metric shallow sockets from Sears. You need a floor jack and jack stands.

I think you see that it would be penny wise and pound foolish to spend money for all the specialized equipment to do it your self. Hire an independent and inquire if you can bring in your chosen for-mentioned parts. With the parts and an experienced teacher It would be done quickly. Good Luck.03 Altima 2.5s brake pad change?
i would say the best thing for you to do,is go to auto zone and pick up a hanes book on that car.it will explain step by step how to do the job.if she wore it down to the metal, then probably you will have either have the rotors turned or have them replaced.she should have heard the squeeler.

If you had new discs as well you may have crap pads, otherwise the pads need time to bed in, after fitting new pads, I always road test a customers car and do several very hard stops from 70 to bed them in before letting the customer drive off, however if there is a problem, if you do not have ABS that is , the rears will lock when you brake hard, which is nasty.

There is nothing obvious that can be done wrong while fitting new pads to reduce efficiency, fail completely yes but not reduce efficiency except leaving brake pipe clamps on perhaps.

Try a few hard stops and if the problem persists take the car back and complain.

You will need a hex wrench and I think a 12 mm combination wrench. There is a bolt like part on the back of the caliper that needs to be taken out to gain access to the retractor screw. When it is taken out, put the allen wrench in and retract it. After mounting the caliper back up, adjust the caliper and pads for a slight drag. How do i change the rear brake pads on a mazda 626 1999?
You can purchase a special tool to compress it or I've used an adjustable clamp but be careful you want the pressure to push directly into the pistons dead centre and you can damage or or chip the piston so be quite careful.

Sometimes I've disconnected the brake line so then the piston goes down with ease and all that needs is to bleed the system fully after wards.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way if that vehicle is equipped with ABS brakes be sure not to get grease or dirt on the sensors or to put then out of alignment etc.How do i change the rear brake pads on a mazda 626 1999?
use a c clamp to push the piston back in. once it is in it should stay at that position for a while after you take it off and just pop the pad back in it proper spot. any auto store should have this little cheap tool that also works in doing this,

How hard would it be to change a clutch pad myself?

Ive changed brake pad's and roaters before, how much more difficult would the clutch pad be?How hard would it be to change a clutch pad myself?
Replacing a clutch is a big job but one definitely worth doing if you want to learn. I'd recommend doing it but like Rick said, if you've never done it then it would be good to have someone there with you who has had experience. It's not necessarily a hard job; it just takes a while. Give it a shot though. What's the worst that could happen? How hard would it be to change a clutch pad myself?
I could be said the clutch job is no more diffciult than the brake job--when you get to it. That's the trouble. First you must seperate the transmission from the engine, first disengaging the balljoints and other parts. Then the transmission must be lowered. Afterwards, the tramsission must be raised and aligned and brought together and everything put back together. It's a whole lot more work than a brake job--and you won't be sitting outside on a milk crate the whole time either! How hard would it be to change a clutch pad myself?
Considerable. To replace the clutch in most cars, you have to drop the transmission %26amp; get it out of the way. If you have a friend who has done this before, it would be worth a six-pack to get him to help, so you could learn. There are also specialized tools needs, like a input shaft stub tool. Maybe help your friend do his clutch, as a learning experience. It can be done on a garage floor, but you gotta know what you're doing....How hard would it be to change a clutch pad myself?
if your talking about the clutch disc then your getting into a lot of work. it,s nothing like changing the brake pads and rotors. changing the clutch you have your work cut out for you and also you better know what your doing. for example you have to make sure the clutch disc is,nt in backwards. How hard would it be to change a clutch pad myself?

How many more miles until I need to change rear brake pads if they 4 mm of life left?

Hard to say without knowing how much you drive a day or what your braking habbits are...

Honestly your under the %26quot;limits%26quot; and need to just replace both now. it may seem stupid, but honestly it needs to be done before you warp the rotor or ruin the surface.

you do know that your front brakes do 90% of the braking while the rear only does 10% correct? if it was true 50/50 the rear brakes would lock up everytime you hit the brakes. on older cars that have disfunctional brake proportioning valves, the rear tires will lock up when you hit the brakes hard.

Just replace em before it ends up costing you more. and just a tip, if you turn the rotor while your there, the brake pads will last longer. just make sure the rotor is not at its minimal thickness. the people at autozone/napa will have a micrometer to measure the thickness to verify if it can be turned or not.How many more miles until I need to change rear brake pads if they 4 mm of life left?
22,000 miles is pretty early to be replacing brakes, but it really depends on your driving habits. We just did the brakes on my wife's car at 65,000 and it was just the front pads. There is no way to tell how long yours will last. An additional tip....take it to a good local brake shop for an inspection and a second opinion. I would not suggest going to Autozone or any similar parts store. The staff there are low paid people who know little about cars. All they know is how to sell parts. How many more miles until I need to change rear brake pads if they 4 mm of life left?
Honda considers 2 mm the time to replace brake pads. As for how many miles you have left, it depends on driving habits (like the others said), and how much city vs. highway driving, etc. You're OK for now but keep an eye on them.

When I change my brake pads how imortant is it to do the rotors?

I'm about to get my brake pads done because they are screeching like crazy when I stop. The mechanic said I should get my rotors done too. He hasn't actually looked at the cat yet. How impotrant is this, and do I have to do this at the same time? Also, how do I know if those need to be done too?

Thnaks, usually my friend helps me with my car but I have to go to the shop this time, so I'm confused.

p.s. I drive a v6 mustang, if that helps. When I change my brake pads how imortant is it to do the rotors?
if the rotors arent warped or gouged from previous brake pads i wouldnt worry about it. easy way to tell if rotors are warped is at medium speeds and highway speeds, your steering wheel will vibrate back/forth either violently or steadily...you know the annoying steering wobble...thats warped rotors 97% of the time.

its common practice to have rotors turned too if they are only slightly gouged or warped.

the rattling is most probably the dust shield on that wheel. its probably cracked and just flapping in the wind against the suspension and the wheel. it just prevents dust from the brake pads from going everywhere. I've had several cars I just ripped them the rest of the way off and left it.

if the car is running fine and not throwing codes, then the cat is ok. if the cat clogged up, you either would have a really crappy running car or it wouldnt crank at all. he cant physically check the cats other than looking at the external cases. too many bends in the exhaust system to even see the honeycomb. When I change my brake pads how imortant is it to do the rotors?
when the pads are changed, the rotors are turned at the same time. this makes them smooth and straight. if the rotors don't meet a certain thickness, then you replace them with new ones. before the rotors are turned, the mechanic will measure them and tell you if you need new ones. When I change my brake pads how imortant is it to do the rotors?
the only way to know for sure if the rotors need changed or %26quot;turned%26quot; is to physically touch the rotors and see if they have deep scratches or grooves in them. ususally (not always) u will have to replace them about every two sets of pads. %26quot;Turning%26quot; means to grind them down so they are smooth again. Sometimes its as cheap to buy new ones as it is to have the old ones ground. When I change my brake pads how imortant is it to do the rotors?
Rotors should be machined at same time. When I change my brake pads how imortant is it to do the rotors?
It is good to change the rotors as well. But you dont have too. You should soon. But if you dont have the funds dont stress it. The most important thing is to stop the screetch.

I changed my front and rear pads but not the rotors. I plan on changing them soon but it hasnt caused me anything. My pads are still screetching in the front because I got some cheap and too hard pads. Im going to take them out since the shop didnt do it and put some antisqueal and see if that works. If not Im returning those brakes and getting my money back for better ones.

Its just easier to change the rotors while changing the pads but some people dont have all that money to do so. Once they take off your caliper it would be a simple swap to just put the new rotor on. Its a way they make some easy money as well. But it wont kill you. Just get them changed too or see if they can be resurfaced if they arent bad. Go somewhere and get a free brake check. In fact get second opinions as well. Nothing wrong with that. When I change my brake pads how imortant is it to do the rotors?
If the rotors are scratched or have rough surface or groves in the surface then any new pads you put on will be worn very fast.It is important to have them turned or replaced if needed but if the mechanic didnt even look at them...you could see yourself without taking the tire off if you can look through the wheel spokes or even feel the rotors. When I change my brake pads how imortant is it to do the rotors?
Screeching noise is very normal , since there is a sensor attached to the pads to alert you when it's time to get new pads , but keeping on driving your car with this noise for a long time , will damage the rotors , then you'll need to get new ones ( they run about $25 each), you should have the rotors TURNED when you replace the pads , %26amp; if they worn out then you better get new ones . Good Luck

Does anyone know how to change the brake pads on a 2003 ford fiesta.?

i think brakes are best left up to the expert. they are something very important, if you screw it up it isn't going to be a good outcome. book it in at a brake joint and let them do its, its a much safer option in my opinion. Does anyone know how to change the brake pads on a 2003 ford fiesta.?
After you have the tire of, You will most likely have to pry the calipers back using a small pry bar or screw driver.(Be carefull not to bust them up). Thats the toughest thing, is prying the calipers loose. The pads should just pop off.Does anyone know how to change the brake pads on a 2003 ford fiesta.?
not hard really heres a site that will show you the steps even a video of how its done if you look.. type in how to change brake pads... the work is the same the bolts change... only two types one most car run and a few have twist in piston for them you will see notch in the top of piston all the other cars brake work the same so once you know how one works you can pretty much do all of them my wife does her now so easy... to replace pads but for rotor car you have to do a few more steps which is not hard either but more dirty

You must still have some airI just changed the brake pads in my 94 sentra and now when I step on the brakes the pedal feels weak, WHY?
maybe wore down rotors, bad caliper, still some air in the lines, bad master cylinder or brake booster. im gonna say bleed them again and if it still is bad test fluid pressure.I just changed the brake pads in my 94 sentra and now when I step on the brakes the pedal feels weak, WHY?
When you change the pads you push the calipers all the way out -- the rear brakes need to be readjusted to compensate. you can do this on some cars by simply backing up and applying the brakes repeatedly until they firm up again. On other cars you need to adjust the rear brakes to compensate.I just changed the brake pads in my 94 sentra and now when I step on the brakes the pedal feels weak, WHY?
If you replaced the pads there was no need to BLEED the brakes, all that needed to be done was for the piston to be pushed back into the caliper. While pushing the piston back in the brake fluid in the caliper would be squeezed out and most likely run out the top of the reservoir unless you used a little siphon pump and drain some out. Since you bled the brakes what most likely happened was they were not bled properly and air is still in the line. Common mistake a lot of people do when changing their pads so don't be ashamed. I guarantee that is what happened though.

You can also adjust the back brakes if they are of the drum type but if they are disc as well then there is of course nothing to do there except check to see if the pads are ok with them and replace if they need it.

I had to bleed my father-in-laws brakes about 3 days ago cause he changed his pads on the front of his jeep and opened the bleeder valves so the piston would push in easier/or make a mess by overflowing and I ended up showing him how to properly change the pads without opening the bleeder valves and then I used a one man bleeder that cost about $13 and bled the brakes for him. Few people I trust to help %26quot;pump up%26quot; the brakes while I open the bleeder valve, some do not put enough pressure on the pedal or don't push them far enough or even release pedal to soon before bleeder valve is tight. If they are the ones responsible for opening the bleeder and tightening it then they usually won't open it far enough to force air out completely with the pressure or they leave it loose a little to get air back in there.I just changed the brake pads in my 94 sentra and now when I step on the brakes the pedal feels weak, WHY?
I think that you need to actually adjust your rear brakes. They have an automatic adjuster in them but sometimes it ceases up.

Good luckI just changed the brake pads in my 94 sentra and now when I step on the brakes the pedal feels weak, WHY?
why did you bleed the brakes? the only time you shoudl ever touch the bleeders is afte hyrdaulic component replacement. assuming you have the air out of it now, and the problem started after replacing the front pads, it could only be 3 things. first, brake pad quality. cheaper pads have lower quality material, and stopping distance and pedal feel is worse. if you got sucked into the lifetime brake pad scheme i am sorry. throw them away. they are so hard you will eat the material off the rotors before you do the pads. second, did you have the rotors machined? if you didn't, they won't have the proper surface area for the new pads. the old pads would have worn into them irregularly, and now you have put on new pads that are flat, and the whole pad is not touching the rotor. no brake pads wear flat on the rotor. the other thing is if you did have the rotors machined. machining them puts a rougher surface on them that the new pads have to wear into. the rough surface gives the paeds less area to tough them until the higher parts get knocked down. (think of the surface of 220 grit sandpaper) once they get worn in they will work fine.

How easy is it,or hard possibly,to change the front brake pads on a Vauxhall 1700 Combo?

I am no mechanic, but quite capable of using tools and have carried out parts that have needed changing in the past. However, changing the pads is a more technical kind of work and needs done correctly for ovious reason.I have seen on the web that a special tool is required in order to depress the piston.

I would like some advice, also that advice maybe to leave alone and use a garage or someone with this experience, thats alright,no offence.

Thank you.How easy is it,or hard possibly,to change the front brake pads on a Vauxhall 1700 Combo?
Hi there it is a lot easier to change brake pads than brake shoes. as you say you are capable to use tools and have done in the past. once you have the Wheel off you will be able to suss out the procedure for taking of calliper you either have to take the whole thing of or just the brake pad holder.

as to needing a special tool well if it is a pressure calliper then All you need is a lever to push the piston back in before you take off calliper, if it is a screw piston then i usually find vice grips or adjustable wrench suffices to screw it back in to calliper. JockHow easy is it,or hard possibly,to change the front brake pads on a Vauxhall 1700 Combo?
It's actually rather easy but if you haven't seen it done yourself then have it done professionally. It's not an expensive repair so since your life depends on doing it correctly why take a chance, and since it will be your first time doing it if you damage something it could become expensive. It's probably about one hours labor and new pads are inexpensive. It might be a bit more than that if your rotors need to be turned or replaced. I'll guess at about 150 Euros. How easy is it,or hard possibly,to change the front brake pads on a Vauxhall 1700 Combo?
I always use a C clamp as long as the piston is compressed evenly and you do one at a time. How easy is it,or hard possibly,to change the front brake pads on a Vauxhall 1700 Combo?
Brake pads are normally fairly simple to replace. Remove the wheel, then you will normally have some bolts to undo to release the caliper, take the old pads out, clean up any flaky rusty bits off the caliper slides and then reassemble. Normally a G clamp is all you need to push the caliper piston back far enough to allow it to fit with the new (thicker) pads in place.

If you have any doubt about what you are doing, ask a competent person to give you a hand, or get it done by a garage. Brakes are not the sort of thing to get wrong on a car!

As per firat answer, if you look on the inside (engine side) of the caliper, you'll see two rubber plugs, one at either end of where the brake pad is.

Prise them out %26amp; you can then undo the long bolt underneath with a 7mm Allen key - You may be able to undo the front one %26amp; then 'swing' the pad carrier up to replace the pads - if not, just undo the second allen bolt. How do i change the front brake pads on a p reg polo 1L?

    Changing brake pads?

I am in the middle of changing the rear brake pads on my 98 Grand Prix. I've never done this before but viewed an online how to video. I can't get the caliper off. I've taken off the bolts just fine so it should now be free. I can move it an inch each way around the rotor. But just not out and off the rotor. I can't see inside very well. Does the little metal clamp that squeaks when your pads get thin need to be removed first? There is quite a bit of rust on the edge of the rotors. Can I just hit the caliper lightly with a rubber mallet?Changing brake pads?
if you have the pins out and can move it just hit it with a hammer and knock it the rest of the way.. but let me ask did you try pushing back the pinton with a big screwdriver first ... and you can use a real hammer you can beat the crap out of them things.... if yo ucan move it some i bet if you was to pry it back some with a screwdrive it would fall offChanging brake pads?
You might try releasing your emergency brakes and then trying to remove the calipers.

Yes you can tap on your calipers. Just strike them on the ends aways from any bolt holes or anything else fragile.Changing brake pads?
Try taking the cap off the brake fluid reservoir to allow the pads to spread further but make sure you surround it with rags in case it overflows. Buy some brake fluid in case you need to replace some. Double check to make sure there is not a pin or bolt you missed. Autozone.com has online repair guides for free if you register. No you should not have to remove the squeaker but it might help to bend it out of the way or remove it. Yes it is OK to use rubber mallet but you should not have to.Changing brake pads?
    Heres what's going on:

The brake pads wear away, and also wear the rotor away. As the rotor gets thinner the caliper pushes more and more in. Sometimes if you let the brakes go too long it also starts to wear grooves into the pads and rotors. These parts all wear together in a pattern. you need to get the caliper to open up some more. You can use all kinds of things to do this. You can use a sturdy flathead screw driver to pry between the caliper piston and the back of the brake pad that touches the piston, you can use a %26quot;c%26quot; clamp. All kinds of ways. But you need to get that caliper to open up. YOu need to get that caliper piston to go in a little so that you can get the assembly to come off...its hanging on by the pattern its worn into the pads/rotor. Like the dude said, you can take off the resevoir cap, make sure your emergency brake is off, etc.

Shady installation job. The dealer manual says you have to either grease the back of brake pads OR get a brake pads with built in shims. The problem is vibration between the pad %26amp; rotor is picked up by the caliper assembly and amplifying the noise. All brake makes noise, so you just have to stop this amplification effect. And you can do this with grease in back of brake pads, or thin layer of brake shim.My brakes are squeaking bad and i just changed my brake pads. Anybody know what this could be coming from?

Make sure you didn't bend the wear indicators ,That's that little piece of metal that looks curved over that's attached to your brake pad. When your brakes wear down this indicator will start making a squealing noise to let you know your brake pads need replacing. These indicators are easily bent so this may be your problem. The indicator metal should not come in contact with your rotors until your brakes are well over half worn

I would only use AC Delco pads. A possible exception would be Bendix. I know you buy stuff at Autozone, but aside from the Fel-Pro gaskets they sell, their parts have no where near the quality that AC Delco has. I would look online for your brake pads or through an independent parts house that sells AC Delco. If you end up going to the dealer, ask for 10% off. Tell them you're a loyal customer. You may pay more for the real deal, but the real deal will last longer, be quieter, provide less brake fade, and you won't have to change the pads as often. The extra money on Delco pads will be well spent.

Follow closley. After he has removed the caliper from the mounting on one side of the car at a time, and slid it off to the point the pads are removed. Loosen the master cylinder cap but do not take it completly off. Now he can use a %26quot;C%26quot; clamp and one of the old pads to compress, squeeze the caliper piston slowey back into the caliper housing. It does not have to bottom out fully in the housing. When reinstalled and bolted down, slowly depress the brake pedal acouple of times to push the caliper back out. Repeat the other side. When both have been fully replaced and bloted down. Press the pedal several times again. ?Check the fluid level, fill as needed, start the engine and repeat the pumping of the pedal several times. check thefluid again and replace the cap. Important: Drive the car slowly and pump the pedal a few times. Your new pads at first will feel a little spongy but will %26quot;Set-In%26quot; within a few milesChanging brake pads - need help!!!?
Hi M, there is a special tool for compressing the caliper piston, unless there have been changes to the designs typically the pistons are pushed back into the caliper bores, sometime you can leave the assembly on the rotor and use a prybar or screwdriver to drive the piston into it bore using the old pad and housings for leverage. or a large c-clamp can be used to the same effect, however it is important to drive them into their housing carefully and straight or they could become wedged and stuck. some rear brake applications have a screw in piston for the parking brake that has to be properly indexed to replace the pads. good luckChanging brake pads - need help!!!?
Your step father must just open the bleeding screw and use a screw driver or Tommy bar to press the piston back. It's very easy. You must just apply some force.

I just had my new car inspected for my insurance company and it passed, but the mechanic said that I should probably think about changing the brake pads at some point. It's not a big deal now, but I'm wondering, how will I know when they do need to be changed? Obviously, I don't want to wait until I can't brake properly. If it matters, it's a '95 Pontiac Sunfire. Thanks. How would I know when I need to replace brake pads?
Most cars now have a %26quot;clicker%26quot; or a %26quot;squealer%26quot; device that alerts you as to when the pads need replaced. If you hear a noise when braking, it's time to replace the brake pads.

How would I know when I need to replace brake pads?
In some wheels, you can visibly see the brake pads if you look closely.

Have your mechanic show you (off the car) what a brake pad is. That's the easiest way to learn what you're inspecting.

Also use a flashlight to better see the pads. Brake pads should be visibly inspected every 12,000 miles.

Be aware the front pads go first, due to deceleration. The majority of a cars' weight is in front. When you stop, that inertia is transferred to your front wheels (nosedive effect.)

Chevys are pretty easy. Make sure you have the correct tool to remove the caliper studs and your pretty much set. Remove the fluid resevoir on the master cylinder. Raise the vehicle and use jack stands. Remove the wheel. Have a strong box ready to lay the caliper on. Remove the caliper bolts and lift off the caliper. Careful not to pull or twist the brake line. Remove the old pads. Use a vise clamp to press the pistons in slowly. Check for worn or leaking boots and seals and replace if neccessary. Install new brake shoes. Scuff the surface of the rotor with 100 grit sandpaper on both sides of the rotor. Reinstall the caliper. Reinstall the wheel and lower the vehicle. Pump the pedal to adjust the new pads. Repeat for the opposite side. How to change the front brake pads on a truck?
You dont need a manual. All you have to do is break your lugs nuts loose, jack it up and take the tire off. That round thingy youll be looking at is called a rotor. On the back side of the rotor youll find 2 bolts 1 on top 1 on bottom. These usually take a 9/16 wrench. You will have to check on right size.Take out the two bolts on back side of rotor and lift caliper up and off.Thats the thingy that holds brake pads.Remove old pads.when you remove old pads youll see a cylinder in middle of caliper. You have to push that back in as far as it will go.I always use a c-clamp to force it back.Once youve down that put in new pads put back on rotor and put the 2 bolts back in,put tire back on,Youre done,That simple

For the typical back yard mechanic like me, you've got extra time to jack up the wheels and put jack stands under the frame for safety. Then you need the right wrench to remove the caliper bolts which may require a breaker bar to get good leverage on the bolt in many cases. The front caliper pistons can be pushed in with a big C clamp, but rear calipers often need a special tool to turn the caliper back in with. Taking care to get the new pads into the caliper like the old pads you took out and remounting the caliper ends up taking about 3 hours for me and that doesn't count going to get the new pads or cleaning up the tools etc. Rear drum brakes would take longer even if you've done them before (about double the time for me). Of course you may need to take your rotors in to be machined or buy new rotors and install them in some cases.

Did you replace the sensor. If it has one wire and touches ground it completes the circuit and the light comes on. If it is a two wire sensor and there is a break in the connection you should replace the sensor. I hope this helps.

Ummmmmm and this has what to do with a computer? If you are going to replace your brakes go buy new breaks and a good repair manual. Then start reading the manual, follow the manual when disassembling the brakes paying close attention to how things come apart. put the new brakes on and reverse the process.

Or you could just take your car to the mechanic and let him do it, that way you know it is done right and you won't go flying off the side of a mountain screaming NO BRAKES! NO BRAKES!

i would take a guess that you are working on the rears? if im right that piston has to be rotated in order for it to go back in to make room for the new pads. rear calipers on a rear disc setup are kind of like a screw, so rotating them will make them go back in. direction im not sure of but you will know if you are going the right way because the piston length will get shorter, if your going the right way. if it gets longer rotate the other direction.

How would I change the brake pads in my honda accord?

I know you need to raise your car and take off the wheel...from there it's pretty straightforward I'm assuming.

I have socket wrenches is that all I need? How would I change the brake pads in my honda accord?
I would suggest not trying this without hands on supervision. There are many things that can go wrong and you will not know how to deal with it.

As was stated the rotors may need to be turned. If the old pads went to metal the rotors will have to be turned or replaced.

The calipers have to be collapsed before the new pads can be installed. On some vehicles the calipers can just be compressed but some have self adjusting calipers that has to be turned(screwed) in. Care must be taken so as not to damage the master cylinder.

There are a lot of times that the brakes will have to be bled. If this is not performed properly the results can be catastrophic.

I don't know how old you are but there are some things , that if messed with, can shorten a life span. This would be a particular person's business but if your brakes go out at an intersection it might involve the lady and kids you knock into on coming traffic. How would I change the brake pads in my honda accord?
sure do it yourself and have fun too. and remember when you make a mistake it will only cause you to crash and /or kill someone else. if the rotors are undersized, you have to get new ones..if they have excessive run-out then they need to be turned. if you have to ask people how to perform vehicle maintenance then you don't need to be doing some of it that will possible affect other people. pay a professional. then the risk is on them not you.

  • How long do brake pads last on Nissan Altima 2007?

I have about 25,000 miles on the car which was new when I got it and Nissan is telling me I need to change my brake pads. I think they should last at least twice this long. I do a lot of city driving, but it's not hard braking. There are no signs that they are wearing out either such as a squealing noise. I'm curious how long brake pads last for other 2007 Altima owners.

ThanksHow long do brake pads last on Nissan Altima 2007?
Brakes should be replaced when they are worn. The mileage does not matter, it depends on ho much of the pad is left.

City driving, even if you use the brakes gently, wears the pads much more quickly than highway driving.

In city driving you are using the brakes often, due to traffic lights and stop signs. When driving on the highway, you can go many miles without touching the brakes at all.

If you do not believe the dealer, have the brakes checked by an independent shop. You may want to have the independent shop do the repairs, seeing as they will most likely be a lot cheaper than the dealer. How long do brake pads last on Nissan Altima 2007?

Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?

I'm a single mother who's brakes just went. I don't have a lot of money and can't afford to take my car into a dealership. I'm VERY good with my hands and I don't mind getting dirty (please no smart comments). I've never dont any car repair but i have done a little research. My question is how hard will it be to change my brake pads and rotors by myself being that i've never done a car repair on my own. (I've built plenty of things around the house...) And, also any suggestions?Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?
well ususally it is not too hard. depends on the vehicle. go to a local parts store and get yourelf a repair manual for your car. it will tell you step by step with pictures. usually its just a couple bolts you have to remove.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?
those damn rusted nuts are hard to get off there... I've tried and I went to a garage 1 hour after. Can't take that damn top nut off.( the one holding the break pad cylinders casing ) Don't go to a dealership, any mexican can do that. Brakes would be easy to change if everything was like new... the rotors are the easy part.

try anyway, if all the nuts unscrew , you're good to go.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?
Changing the rotors can be a little difficult you may want someone for support but I can change break pads with my eyes closed, just find a good how to book or site.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?
Doing brakes is a little more difficult than say painting around the house. Your life as well as others is in jeapordy if done incorrectly. I would suggest not doing brake work if you've never worked on cars before. Try learning oil changes, airing your tires, changing your air filter etc.....I suggest if you have your own parts, find a shop that will install your parts and have them do the work. There wont be a warranty if you furnish the parts but the cost would be around 100 dollars. Either that or find a friend that has done some brake work and pay them.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?
brakes are not difficult, at least I don't think so anyway, I just buy the parts and they have a repair manual at the auto parts store.

The name of the books you can get for your car is either Chilton, or Hayes, they are specific to your car, or similar models. Example; I have a Mercury Grand Marquis, and the book covers the Ford Crown Victoria which is the same thing.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?
Brakes are Very important, please only do them if you have a experienced friend, you'll need a friend to help you bleed the lines ( any air in the brake line will compress when you push the brake, instead of applying the pressure to the disk/drum)

Good LuckChanging brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?
I certainly admire your determination and willingness to do your own brake work, but because you have admittedly never done any auto repairs - I would highly recommend that you don't start with a brake job. Perhaps a water pump or something similar - if you don't do it correctly, it still leaks - no big deal - but brakes? If you do this incorrectly, it could be a very big deal. Perhaps you know someone with a little experience and he or she could assist you? If not - bite the bullet and take it into a service shop.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?
some tools and a c-clamp you can do it pretty quickly. Be careful it takes special tools to remove some calipers. AutoZone will tell you if you need specialty tools.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?
youtube and expert village.com offer really good videos to tell you how to do these things . good luckChanging brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?
Although I would love to make some %26quot;smart%26quot; comments about your %26quot;getting dirty%26quot; remark, I'll refrain.

Changing brakepads and maybe rotors by yourself for the first time will be impossible. You will likely not do it right and cause an accident or wind up leaving your car in a condition where it cannot be brought to a mechanic.

What you need to do is have someone there with experience who has done this before.

Some cars have rotors that can be slapped on without even spinning a bolt, some require specialized tools.

You'll need the following for brake pads:

    1. new brakepads

    2. brake fluid - a bottle

    3. a large C-clamp

    4. appropriate drivers - philips head, flat head, sparx, etc

    5. A good pair of pliers.

You will need to remember to collapse the caliper and bleed the brakes. Remember to loosen that nut looking thing on the caliper to allow brake fluid to seep before you colapse it.

Once you have done this a couple of times, this becomes old hat. It becomes easy and a great way to save money.

Best of luck with this, you can do it!

Finally, I'd also like to say that it is very, very sexy when a woman changes her own brakes. Especially if she's wearing blue denim overalls that are a couple of sizes too big and a skin tight white tank top.... so... what are you doing later? heheChanging brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?
there are alot of little details that go into a good brake job as apposed to one that will shake after few weeks of driving, supporting vehicle safely ,tools and chemicals make the first time expensive after that its not to bad .as an ex mechanis i have all the stuff so it takes me about an hour and 1/2 to do it in the driveway with out air tools, if you do it wrong best case is the car is stuck in your driveway worst is you crash.find someone whos done it and buy them some beer to sit and watch/advise you.its easier to talk them into watching then kneeling on the concrete for a couple of hoursChanging brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?
Just as long as you dont mind getting dirty you didnt say what kind of car it is but about the best advice I can give you is go to the parts store where you got your pads and get a repair manual for your car it has step by step instructions with pictures as far as your rotors go you probably wont need them unless they have really deep grooves in them i mean almost through to the other side deep I have seen it happen before where the pads were past the rivits but anyhow 9 times out of 10 you can just have them turned but its not a requirement and while your out you might want to get some hand cleaner your going to need it if you need any help feel free to contact me directChanging brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?
best solution. go to your local auto zone. and get some advice. you will need a big clamp, maybe about 12 - 16 inches. a Big one. for your brakes. then they will help you with the rotors. you may have to have them turned good idea to do that. auto zone guys will help you. or find a good friend to help you. its about 30 min a side for your brakes you can do it.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?
EASY JOB. Get the wheels off, and unbolt the brake calipers from the spindle(if the bolts are tough get a can of PB blaster and spray'em up). you'll also wanna pick up a brake pad spreader(to push the pistons back in) then just replace the pads. once you get the calipers off the rotor will come right off, just put the new one on(make sure they're clean!) and slide the caliper w/new pads back over the rotor and bolt it back on. put the wheel back on and you're done!

BE SURE TO CHECK THE FLUID AND PUMP UP THE BRAKES BEFORE YOU TRY TO DRIVE. If they stay soft or spongy, you'll have to bleed them. you'll need help with that.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?
it is a very easy job to do brake pads and rotors. all u have to do is pull the two slide bolts that hold that caliper on, and use a clamp to push the inside cylinder of the brake caliper in. then just pull of the rotor, put the new rotor on, slap the new pads in, put it back into place, and put the bolts back in. use the manual to verify the parts. it is a very very easy job and a good way to pick up mechanical knowledge.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?
Some cars require a puller of press to remove the rotors. But if you don't need this, it's easy. Just read a repair manual before you start to make sure you can do all the required work and have the proper tools on hand. It's frustrating to need to drive to the parts store when you've already taken your car apart!Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?
Just chipping in another word of encouragement to try doing it yourself.

The sites listed above will help. This one explains it too.

    http://www.edmunds.com/ownership/howto/a

If you have Anti-Lock Brakes you need to bleed the brakes just a little. If you're not sure if you have them look for an ABS light when you start your car. Bleeding brakes is easy but it really helps to have someone step on the brakes for you, by the way. The other way I've done it myself is to prop a stick between the brake pedal and the driver's seat and scoot the seat up until it depresses the pedal. Then you go out, loosen the valve a little to release the fluid until it doesn't shoot out very much anymore then quickly retighten it so no air gets in. Then scoot the seat back and start over again one more time if you want or do it for the other side.

Also, if you're really looking to save money don't buy the brake cleaner. Maybe it helps but I don't and all the brakes I've done have worked fine.

Consider checking to see if your local parts store can turn (polish/clean up) your rotors instead of buying new ones. It's about $7.50 vs about $40 for new.

Is it easy to replace my own brake pads?

I own a 2006 Scion xA. I am needing to save money on the up-keep of the car. Is it possible to change the brake pads on your own? How difficult is it? Where would I find information and instructions for doing this job specific to my Scion xA?Is it easy to replace my own brake pads?
Myself I'm a master auto tech., but yes you can change them yourself you will need a jack, 2 jack stands, Metric wrench set, 1/2in drive ratchet, and sockets. Once you remove the tire, and see the caliper, you have to spred open the caliper by hand. You can do this by inserting a flat tiped screwdriver into the opening of the cal.between the back brake pad and the rotor now pry it open until it stops. Do this on both sides. when you are finished the job befor you start the car depress the brake pedel several times until the pedel is normal again. Hope this helps you out.Is it easy to replace my own brake pads?
There would be many forums that could give you instructions on doing this. It's not really a hard job, but it will take a little while and may be confusing if you've never done a brake job before. Is it easy to replace my own brake pads?
If you select the proper metric tools: (1/2 shallow well sockets and a 12' and 16%26quot; ratchet, heavy dead blow hammer, never seize, 4 1/2 right angle grinder and coarse zerconia flap wheels.) No cheap Chinease tools for this job. It will eat em' alive. S%26amp;K or Craftsman is a good choice. You must be familiar with all the hydraulics and mechanical slider pins the job is %26quot;duck soup.%26quot; You'll need a floor jack and jack stands also.

It's best to purchase a Haynes Repair manual for your car. You can order them from any NAPA or Carquest automotive store. You may chose to go to a local library and sign out a Motors, Haynes or Chiltons big book and soak in detailed information and pictures or your particular braking system. Toyota's have outstanding brake pads that should last 60,000 + miles. It's important to replace the brake pad shim kits also.

    1. Jack up the car, use an additional stand and remove the wheel.

    2. Push (with the help of a large screwdriver as a pivot arm) the piston as far as possible back in the caliper.

    3. Remove the bottom M6x20mm bolt, which is holding the caliper fixed to the slider pin.

    4. Open the caliper by turning it along the upper slider pen. Take out the pads, clean the contact point and put the new pads in. Apply copper grease to the lugs and back of the pads to prevent brake squeal.

    5. Remove the upper M8x20mm bolt and gently put the caliper in a free hanging position from the brake hose.

    6. Remove the M10x20mm bolts fixing the anchor-brace to the upright.

    7. Remove the two M6-Torx30 bolts, which fix the disk to the hub.

    8. After a couple of years of bonding the disk needs some convincing to give up its attachment with the hub. Use a plastic (not rubber or steel) hammer to knock it loose with some well aimed hits.

    9. Before fitting the new disk, clean the face of the hub with a steel brush and apply a little (!) copper grease, to prevent things sticking in the future.

    10. Put everything together in reverse order (apply a bit of “Lock-tite” to the M10 and M8 bolts and get the correct torques from your handbook:

The M10x20 mm bolts with **Nm (or as tight as possible with a hand tool)

The M8x20 bolts with **Nm (or hand tight plus 30 degrees)

The M6 Torx bolts hand tight

Not sure how much help I've been but re-message if you need further help. Just be careul not to lose anything and put everything on in the reverse order. Important too that you loosen the wheel nuts first by half a turn before jacking up, use axle stands or similar and even take photos if you can so you can see where evrytthingf goes back - works for a few people I know!

And, as said, buy a Haynes Manual too, they're invaluable, they'll give you the correct torques and everything.Changing Brake Pads and Discs on 2004 Peugeot 307 S model. HELP!?

is it a easy job to do?How to change the brake pads on a zx6r kawasaki 1999 (front and rear)?
    It takes about 15 minutes.

In the front (on each brake) there are 2 pad spring bolts. You remove them and the pad spring, then pull out the clip and remove the pad pin.

When you put the new pads in, you need to push the caliper pistons in by hand as far as you can, install the new pads and replace the pad pin, clip, pad spring and bolts. Make sure the clip is to the outside of the pad.

The back brakes you must remove the caliper by unscrewing the mounting bolts. Take the caliper off the disc, remove the clip and pad pin, then take out the old pads.

To install new pads, push the piston in and reverse the above procedure.

You should get a service manual as the illustrations are just as helpful as the text. You can probably find a used one on ebay or at http://www.alibris.com or http://www.biblio.com for cheap. How to change the brake pads on a zx6r kawasaki 1999 (front and rear)?
it's easy....all u need is the service manual and the right tools. it'll walk u thru it step by step. is cheaper to get the manual than to pay for the shop time. How to change the brake pads on a zx6r kawasaki 1999 (front and rear)?
Yes it is an easy job if you have the skills and tool to do it

    BUT

As you have to ask how on here and this is your brakes we are talking about I doubt if you do possess the necessary skills and tools to do this and I mean no offence but safety is paramount.

Local bike shop would not charge a fortune to do this and you would be happy in the knowledge that it was done properly.

You need to put safety up there at the top and keep safe

Good luckHow to change the brake pads on a zx6r kawasaki 1999 (front and rear)?
Remove the 2 bolts holding each caliper on. Push in on the old pads to move the pistons all the way in. DO NOT PULL THE BRAKE LEVERS WHILE CALIPERS ARE OFF! Remove the 2 screws that hold the anti-vibe springs on top of the calipers. Pull the cotter pin on the pin that runs through the top of the pads. Pads should fall out. Install new pads and all components in reverse steps. Install calipers...do not touch rotors or pads with your fingers...oil from fingers causes squealing brakes. Pump levers to seat pads to rotors and check fluid levels. Good Luck!

Brake calipers & changing brake pads.?

On my 98 Grand Prix I just got the calipers off and took out the old brake pads. I am now attempting to put in the new pads. But they are so thick that they do not fit. My guess is that I need to create more room by pushing the piston in farther. But how do I do that?Brake calipers %26amp; changing brake pads.?
I sometimes use a large %26quot;C%26quot; clamp. I clamp the back of the caliper to the old pad and tighten slowly to push the piston all the way in. Tighten the clamp real slowly to keep from pushing the fluid too fast and to keep the piston straight.

Good luck.Brake calipers %26amp; changing brake pads.?
some are compressed by force and some require a tool that you twist and when twisted the piston goes in. Try a large wrench or clamp and use the old pads to protect the piston and seal and see if you can push the piston back in. If it doesn't move slowly then the piston needs to be turned to be put back into position. If that is the case go to kragens, autozone and rent the tool.

To easily tell if it is the type that twists in see if there are perpendicular groves on the piston. Basically looks like a screw that would require a very large phillips head.

    it would look like this

I use a huge (HUGE!) pair of channel lock pliers. A c-clamp or other device can also work. If it won't budge, you can loosen the bleeder screw to reduce the hydraulic pressure.Brake calipers %26amp; changing brake pads.?
USUALLY, if the piston is a hollow-like tube, then they can simply be compressed using a large c-clamp. DONT forget to pop the top off of the master cylinder!!!!! And do this slowly, so you don't rupture the brake line. If the piston is solid-looking with a cap on the end, these are the type that has to be %26quot;screwed%26quot; back in. I have had success using a pair of pliers/channel locks to turn it while I tightened the c-clamp.Brake calipers %26amp; changing brake pads.?
Don't loosen your brake lines!! You'll introduce air into the system and have squishy brakes.

Take the cap off the brake fluid reservoir, and take a 'c' clamp and very slowly recompress the piston. Compress it all the way, and the pads will slot in easily. You may have to take some fluid out of the master cylinder, as you compress the caliper piston the level will rise. (Don't spill it, it will eat paint like nobody's business.)

If you don't have a c clamp, use whatever tool will recompress it. but make sure the piston is flat while you're pushing it.

Good luck.Brake calipers %26amp; changing brake pads.?
If it is the fronts, you need to compress them.

If you go to the auto zone site you can find a repair guide for this car.Brake calipers %26amp; changing brake pads.?
Either with a piston depressing tool or a C-Clamp and block of wood.

Best way to do this is to take the lid off of the master cylinder and cover the opening with a rag. Lets the back pressure ease off a little easier.

Next, place the pad side of an old break pad against the piston and use the piston depressor to recess the piston. It's easy. It just uses pressure on the back of the caliper and with a screw in system, presses the piston back in.

If you don't have one of those, get a C-Clamp and a piece of wood. Press the block of wood against the piston and slowly press the piston back in with the clamp.

I doubt it being a 98 it's a worm gear piston but check to be sure. Some calipers (again, I highly doubt it) use a worm gear to resses the piston. Check for a hex nut on the side of the caliper and turn that counter clockwise.Brake calipers %26amp; changing brake pads.?
You can buy the proper tools from Autozone. It cost me $13.00. Its a special tools to push the caliper piston back in. Just ask them and they will sell you the right tools...Brake calipers %26amp; changing brake pads.?
The cheap and effective way out is go to Sears and get an adjustable screw carpenters clamp. Place an old brake pad across the caliper piston, slide the clamp behind the caliper and screw the adjustment part of the clamp directly on the old brake pad. The piston will detract fully.

How come I can change the front brake pads but not the rear on my car?

Is there i different method that is applied to the rear brakes? How come I can change the front brake pads but not the rear on my car?
Alot of rear caliper pistons need to be %26quot;turned%26quot; and %26quot;pushed%26quot; in. This can be a very tricky ordeal. Alot of the time they will just turn and turn and turn. How come I can change the front brake pads but not the rear on my car?
the rear brakes are also the parking brake. Sometimes the caliper piston will have slot on the end of it for a tool to turn the piston as it is pressed in. Buy a repair manual for the car that will tell you the proper procedure for compressing the caliper piston. You may need a specialty tool to engage the slots and turn the piston while compressing it. I hope this helps
