If you check your local auto parts store you'll find they sell a repair manual for your car. It will give you a step by step for most anything you want to do on the car. I never start any major repairs on any car without a manual. How to change the brake pads on 2000 Mercury Cougar?
really not hard at all to just change pads.... take wheel off and try pushing the pads and piston back.. if they moving remover pin or bolts and lift off caliber pull off old pad and push ther caliber back on you can find your answer here and maybe a video of how its done... only a couple types.. one the piston just will push back with a screwdriver or c clamp.. other is a screw in type piston for that you need to rent the tool.. all cars brake are pretty much the same in how they work so once you can do one the rest will be easy my wife does heres.. you can change the pads twice and then you really must have the rotors turned

take a hammer and someting that you can push them through with. just bang them through with the hammer and a big flathead screwdriver is what i used on my 91 F150 and just wiggle off the caliper and remove.....make sure u open up the caliper with a big C Clamp so when the new pads are installed u can get it back over the rotor. when done just bang the clip back through the holes from the front back to where they sat originally

How much does it cost to change your brake pads?
I have a subaru all wheel drive so that would be two sets to change whats the least and most it would cost? How much does it cost to change your brake pads?
You could be talking anywhere between $20 and $60 a set, depending on the type. Asbestos brakes are pretty cheap, but the dust that collects on your brakes and rims is toxic and can cause cancer. Ceramic pads, while expensive, are the best, they have maximum stopping power and don't leave any dust, toxic or non-toxic. And if you're stuck in the middle somewhere, get composite brake pads. They're moderately priced, and moderately good. How much does it cost to change your brake pads?
depends on what kind of pads you get. if you get ceramic pads, you'll pay about 50 for a pair. the good thing about the ceramic pads is that they dont leave brake dust behind. if you go to autozone and get their best brakes, youll only have to buy 4 pairs, if you have all disc brakes, for as long as you own the car. autozone has a lifetime warranty on pads, batteries, and alternators, that is as long as you own the car. and its very simple to change out the pads yourself, theres one bolt to unscrew and move the caliper out of the way to put the pads on, itll save you about 150 for a shop to do it.How much does it cost to change your brake pads?
It depends. If the rotors and cylinders are OK, and pads are all that needs replacing, a shop will do it for you for about $120.00 per pair of wheels. If you do it yourself, about forty bucks per set of wheels for a ceramic pad will do it for you.How much does it cost to change your brake pads?
22 to 40 for each end at auto zone with a life time warranty. How much does it cost to change your brake pads?
if that,s all it needs are pads then you probably will pay around $250.00 for all 4 wheels + taxes. How much does it cost to change your brake pads?
the cheapest would be 35 dollars a pair

How to change rear brake pads and rotor on a Chevy 2004 Trailblazer EXT?
grinding sound when i stop. Notice only the rear driver side wheel has worn pads and rotor has grooves in it.How to change rear brake pads and rotor on a Chevy 2004 Trailblazer EXT?
The information you've received thus far is good. You'll need a set of 1/2 inch drive shallow well metric sockets and a 16%26quot; breaker bar or a 16%26quot; ratchet. The bolts inside the spindle are hardened, usually rusted somewhat and they have *Blue loctite in the bolt threads from the factory. That's why you'll need the extra leverage of a 16%26quot; ratchet or a less expensive braker bar. Sears and Auto Zone's best sockets work fine for this type of work.
After removing the brake caliper it's necessary to remove the brake caliper bracket before removing the brake rotors. Make sure you check and lubricate the brake slider pins with synthetic brake grease, avalable at any auto parts store. It may be necessary to hammer the inside of the brake rotor outward with a heavy ball pein hammer of a short lightweight maul. Turn the rotor as you hammer it. It's rusted on the end of the drive axles.
**It's important to use an electric drill with a stiff hardware store wire brush mounted on a spindle to clean the inside surface of the rotor which was rusted on the axle flange. Use the same wire brush to clean off the ends of the axles. If you have a shop nearby with a brake lathe the rotors should be re-surfeaced. If new rotors are necessary, find an AC-Delco dealer or your local Chevrolet parts counter. Auto parts stores nowadays sell cheap junk off-shore brake rotors which aren't worth your time and energy installing. autopartswarehouse.com has EBC slotted and dimpled rotors that have been cast in Great Britain which are exceptional parts.
Off-shore (China) cast iron is terrible. It'll rust corrode and warp easily. You'll also notice large pits in the surfaces as the brake pads wear the surfaces.
What ever brake rotors you decide to go with paint a thin coat of *Never Seize on the inside surface that mates to the axles. The rotors will never stick on the ends of the axles again. Select Ceramic brake pads also. Bendix CT.3 @ autopartswarehouse.com or Advanse Auto. AC-Delco are the two brands I'd suggest. How to change rear brake pads and rotor on a Chevy 2004 Trailblazer EXT?

If only one side has worn pads, you probably need to replace the caliper as well. The plunger in the caliper may be sticking and causing the problem. If you have ever changed disc brakes before, it's pretty self explanatory. The only difference you will find on the back brakes is the rotors are actually drum rotors and there is a drum Integrated into the rotor for the parking brake.

Cadillac Change Brake Pads light...?
I might be purchasing a 1999 STS tomorrow and this light is on.
He said he changed the brake pads (turned rotors also), you can clearly see they are new, from a local mechanic. He said the mechanic told him he has to go to the Cadillac dealership to get the light turned off.
If I do decide to buy it, how do I solve this problem?Cadillac Change Brake Pads light...?

Getting the piston down on changing Barina brake pads?
Im trying to change my mother in laws 2001 Holden/Opel Barina xc 1.4L Brake pads but im having heaps of trouble, iv tried doing everything but i cant seem to get the piston down, does anyone know how i can do this.. Iv changed brake pads before on all types of cars and never had any trouble except on this carGetting the piston down on changing Barina brake pads?
are you trying to get the piston apart from the pad?
if so, wedge something like a screwdriver between the old pad and piston then lever em apart.
trying to close the gap?
to bleed the brakes start at the rear left, left front, right back then right front.
if this doesnt work, then the brake slave cylinder could be gone, (theyre known to go in the opel)Getting the piston down on changing Barina brake pads?
Use a very large %26quot;C%26quot; clamp or vice grips with something between to protect the piston from being damaged.

How do you get the change brake pads light to go away on a 1999 Cadillac Seville STS?
It's really annoying. I put in new brake pads, but I didn't change the sensors and I'm not going to because they are stupid expensive for a feature thats pretty unneeded. Is there any way to keep this light off for good? It comes on every time I turn on the car and I have to hit the arrow up to turn it to something else.
Also, are those sensors the possible reason for the annoying chirp I hear while driving? It sounds like its coming from the wheel in the front but the rotors are new, brake pads are new and everything is in sound shape yet it makes the most annoying chirp ever. Could this be because the car thinks it needs new brake pads so its telling me to change by chirp and by stupid light on the dash? How do you get the change brake pads light to go away on a 1999 Cadillac Seville STS?
put a piece of black electrical tape over the light or buy the sensors. The chirp could be a number of things.
Ghetto fag? lmao. You're the idiot complaining about the light and you know you need the sensors replaced...which will fix the light..but of course you want a way around it....No not ghetto but u sound like a fag!How do you get the change brake pads light to go away on a 1999 Cadillac Seville STS?
yes it all could be because of bad sensor you might want to find out which fuse controls the light and maybe pull the light good luckHow do you get the change brake pads light to go away on a 1999 Cadillac Seville STS?
pull the fuse, or just cut the wire, ya dont need it anyways, you can pretty much tell when u need new brake padsHow do you get the change brake pads light to go away on a 1999 Cadillac Seville STS?
it also could be a wheel bearing too.
