not too bad but be carefull there is an a.b.s. sensor you wanna watch out for.if u acidently damage it it could cost a decent amount to fix.How hard is it to change the front brakes (pads and rotors) on a E36 BMW?
With the right tools you should be able to do it in your own garage, just use quality tools so you won't round off the caliper bolts, and use a C-clamp to squeeze in the pistonsHow hard is it to change the front brakes (pads and rotors) on a E36 BMW?
BMW. I would stay away... Dint get me wrong they are easy to change on Honda, Toyota, etc. but my step father tried it on my moms and we could never get the sensor back to normal.

How to change brakes on a 95 subaru impreza l awd 2 door?

any step by step, how do i know if only the pads need changing or if i need to change the disks as well, can i brush the disks? does the brake fluid have to be drained (if so how) do the pads have to be lubricated? please help. How to change brakes on a 95 subaru impreza l awd 2 door?
The number of doors on your car has less to do with it than the number of wheels. How to change brakes on a 95 subaru impreza l awd 2 door?
You will need some good jack stands(4 would be good), a little tool from the parts store(I can't remember the name, but I've egot one too) for to turn the brake caliper compression cylinders back into the calipers and some fresh brake fluid(3). The pads need changing if they're about less than a quarter of an inch away from the edge of the little metal finger that lets them make a horrid squilling sound. Sand paper works best rather than a wire brush. No, the fluids fine. No lube on the brakes, just anti-sieze compound on the caliper to strut bl=bolts and on the wheel to hub bolts. And the fuel filter should be either on the passenger side of the engine compartment OR on the left. How to change brakes on a 95 subaru impreza l awd 2 door?
If you had to ask the question, YOU DON'T.

YOU should take it to the experts.

Don't monkey with brakes. You might end up extinct.

How to check the remaining life of brake pads?

I had my brakes changed about 2.5 years and 30-35000 miles ago.

I am not getting any squeaking or grinding but I might be getting a little pulsating at times. Maybe not, I am about to go on a 1500 ile trip and my just be paraniod!

Anyways, I overheard a mechanic telling someone they had a certian amount of milimeters left on their pads.....

Any way I can check that myself?

What is the suggested level to change them? How to check the remaining life of brake pads?
take your wheel off. look at the brake pad- it sits against the shiny disc (called a rotor) and under the big metal thing (called a caliper. if you look at it long enough you will see the thin piece of metal separated from the caliper. there is a small metal tab that SHOULD come straight out and then turn at a 90 degree angle towards the rotor.

measure from the end of the tab and the rotor. anything less than 2 mm you should have gotten new pads already. in most cases, the %26quot;feeler tab%26quot; damages the rotor when it makes contact, but it sticks forward so that people will know when to change their brakes.

the light shutter that you are getting could be any number of things ranging from normal ABS operation, to your struts, to the rotors being slightly warped (also a normal thing with today's cars). all vehicles have a set of standards that they consider acceptable and all vehicles are different. it is cheaper (most of the time) to re-lathe your rotors, however after it has been done two or three times, that can't be done either. and replacement is necessary. the rotor having an un-even wear pattern going from the inside to the outside is also normal with todays pads.

Hope this helped. How to check the remaining life of brake pads?
if ya can take the tire off ya can seeHow to check the remaining life of brake pads?
with that kind of millage between brake change I would recommend that you get new pads/shoes and rotors/drums just to be on the safe side. I am willing to bet the pulsating is coming from a warped rotor. Have your brake fluid changed as well. How to check the remaining life of brake pads?
Most brake pads are provided with a sort of metal %26quot;feeler%26quot;. If you can hear a metallic noise while braking, its time to replace the pads otherwise you could have metal to metal contact which isn't good and will ultimately destroy your disks or drums. The pulsating feel generally comes from the uneven surface of the disk or drum brakes. This will require re-facing by machine shop or replacement whichever is more convenient for you.

BTW, you can check this yourself by peering inside the brake calipers. If the remaining pads are 1/8th of an inch thick, its time to replace the pads. How to check the remaining life of brake pads?
some cars dont require tire removal to check brake wear compair the thickness to that of new pads. change them before they wear down to the backing, if your not getting 50,000 miles out of your brakes you have other problems . ANYONE who changes your oil should be able to tell you......

Is there a place i can go to get a hand with fixing my car.?

My passenger side window won't roll up. it's electric. its raining i dont think it has fallen off track . i really dont want to take it to a mechanic because i know they will charge me hourly to find the wiring throughout the car. i am a girl but i know a little bit about cars. i can change brake pads and a tire and i know how to change an alternator, i can sometimes tell whats wrong with a car by the sounds it makes (i have had so many) what should i do?Is there a place i can go to get a hand with fixing my car.?
If you can't help, just say you want the 2pts. and move on - but don't give lame advice. (You know who you are...)

Give me a minute and I'll see what I can do to help you - K? I'll be right back...

OK, this is the only website I have so far:

http://www.misterfixit.com

it's not the best; you have to scroll thru a bunch of babble... but it might help for now, and it's free. :)

back again... i just went to http://www.google.com and typed in - I need to fix my cars electical windows - many things came up that might help you to fix your windows.

Another suggestion: the transportation dept. in your city... school bus mechanics, tour bus mechanics, taxi mechanics... some of these guys run fix-it-shops out of their homes and charge MUCH CHEAPER RATES than others.

High schools and colleges need cars to fix (for training their students) and are willing to do the work for free or next to nothing.

On LAFB there is a shop where the military guys go to play around, (their hobby) w/ cars, and they are always quick to offer their help/knowledge/insight. Great guys. There are also %26quot;car shows%26quot; here every weekend in the Library parking lot. Those guys LOVE working on cars/showing them off/helping you figure out what yours needs...

I hope something here has helped you.

God bless you Sweetheart. And good for you that you do your best to take care of yourself, and NOT let others take advantage of you! :)Is there a place i can go to get a hand with fixing my car.?

Just do it yourself

you are such a mechanicIs there a place i can go to get a hand with fixing my car.?
The motor went out...$150 for labor and $50 for the motor..

Good Luck with all that...Is there a place i can go to get a hand with fixing my car.?
You can take it to a company that installs car windows. It doesn't have to be a mechanic unless it is an electrical problem. You don't really have much of a choice. Is there a place i can go to get a hand with fixing my car.?
Unless you know someone that would do you a favor like that the only option is to go to a mechanic. Yeah its expensive but you're not the only one with a car problem. Is there a place i can go to get a hand with fixing my car.?
Get one of those Chilton library books that show the repair drawings for your car. Check out the window mechanisms. If you can't hear the motor maybe a fuse has blown. If you hear noise and bumping the operator or gears might need replacement. If you hear the motor but no motion it might be the connection from the operator to the window. Are you sure it is still on the track - can you slide it up and down by hand? Good luck.Is there a place i can go to get a hand with fixing my car.?
I had a problem with my car regarding my driver side window not rolling up awhile back. I have power windows and I believe the motor is about to go. I went to my dealership and they gave me a little tip that you can try. If you have power windows, turn your car on, and while holding the window button (in the window going up position), use your fist and strike the door in a sort of upperward position kind of below where the handle to the door is (on the inside of the door). Keep holding the button and keep doing it until it rolls up. It worked for me several times and haven't had a problem with my windows again so far. Though it may not be a permanent solution, it might at least get your windows up in case it rains or so no one breaks into your car.Is there a place i can go to get a hand with fixing my car.?
You can try you Technical school they usaully have opening that they use your car for the student to work on and I think you get the parts for wholsale or something like that. You need to check with them. If you really want to get handy maybe you might think about taking class or two there as well.Is there a place i can go to get a hand with fixing my car.?
Some community colleges have a auto class and it is sometime free or cheap to have them work on it for you. The first thing you should do is check the fusees and make sure they are not blown. the next thing is with the switch on and the door open try movng the wires that go into the door. A lot of the time a wire willl short where it goes in the door.Is there a place i can go to get a hand with fixing my car.?
You did not specify what kind of location you live in. Around military bases especially there are cooperative groups. I forget their names. But it is part of the MWR, morale, welfare, and recreation. They have cooperative garages with bays with lifts, expensive items, lifts, pullers, etc. down to good tool sets. You can rent the tools. Along with the tools comes a knowledgeable person who can advise but not do the work. I have never seem them on the civilian side but I do not live near a large city. Your next bet would be a training site for mechanics. That would be a junior college trade school or high school shop class. They would have rules in the way though.

Now if you would actually join the National Guard or other branch of services, you could probably access the military base MWR garage. Is there a place i can go to get a hand with fixing my car.?
The best investment I ever made is buying a Haynes manual for your specific car. These manuals can be purchases at your local parts store. They average between $10 -$25.

Buy a cheap voltmeter and a general tool kit. You will be surprised at what you can accomplish and the money you save while doing your own repairs.

Buy about 10ft of wire. If the switch is bad you can hook one end of the wire to the +of the battery and the other end of the wire to window switch to get the window up for now. Most electrical failures occur because of dirt. Buy some electrical contact cleaner and spray it in the switch. It might help.

I changed my brake pads on 98 civic?

after i installed i got in the car and pumped the brakes but still i have to push more than half way on the brake pedal to stop how to fix thisI changed my brake pads on 98 civic?
If you opened the bleeder screw, you need to bleed all of your brake lines. which is a good thing anyway.. flushing the old brake fluid is good to do every 4 years. or so.

otherwise, your rear brake shoes might need adjustment. if the shoes are to loose then you're going to get a low pedal.I changed my brake pads on 98 civic?
Take your vehicle in to a shop and have the brake system flushed if your going to keep the car more than 2 years. Otherwise, take out a life insurance policy on yourself and increase your auto liability coverage to 3 million dollars.I changed my brake pads on 98 civic?

  • In the UK approx how much to get ur brake fluid or pads changed?

Generally 拢60-拢70 for pads supplied and fitted (eg. Ford Focus 1.6) but it does vary depending on the make and model of vehicle.

As for brake fluid, expect to pay about the same. The fluid is cheap, it just takes a bit of time to free off the bleed nipples (especially on older vehicles), drain the system and then 2 mechanics to bleed the new fluid into the system.

Hope this helpsIn the UK approx how much to get ur brake fluid or pads changed?
It really does depend where you get your work done a main dealer (someone who only deals with one make of car) will charge considerably more than an independent .It also depends on what type of car you drive a popular car will cost less than a rarer car.shop around but it probably will be less than a hundred poundsIn the UK approx how much to get ur brake fluid or pads changed?
some time it depends upon are and some time on quality and time. any way get your part from good suppliers like euro car parts so at least you get it less price and get it done around those areas where you can find most of the garage.

How can i tell what kind of brake system my 2000 jeep grand cherokee has.?

i need to change the brake pads in the front but when i called the auto parts store they asked me what brake system? ATE or Akebono i dont know aint that handy to just tell. can anyone give me any info its a 2000 JGC Laredo 6 cylinder. How can i tell what kind of brake system my 2000 jeep grand cherokee has.?
The ATE (Alfred Teves) are the OEM brakes pads, shoes and calipers on 1999 and later Grand Cherokees. There was a TSB on front brakes on certain Grand Cherokees that had issues with warping rotors causing vibration, excessive wear and noise.

For those vehicles the front brake pads, rotors and calipers were replaced with Akebono parts.

There are things to look for under the vehicle but the easiest thing to do is to go to your local dealer ask the service manager or parts counter to check and see if the parts were replaced, they will need your VIN number. They can also check to see if you have one of the models that had the defective parts although most were 1999 models. If they were not changed you have ATE.How can i tell what kind of brake system my 2000 jeep grand cherokee has.?
Ignore the useless drivel in most of the above posts.

Your best bet is to pull off a front wheel and look at what you have. If yours are still original on a 2000, then you have the crappy Teves calipers. Jeep had many brake issues on the early WJ jeeps. Our '99 was upgraded to Akebono. The calipers and pads are visually much different. Not sure if there is a name stamped on the caliper or not, however you can examine a set of pads and recognize the correct one when you get to the store, or search some sites like Autozone for them and look at their pictures. If this helps, here is a list of the factory part numbers:

    1. Original (from 1999 model production through May 10, 2002 (Teves, black color with open-sided bracket)

you should have disc brakes front and rear.

    http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductList.

I dont know what they were telling you, that makes no sense.

you have a hyraulic power assist brake system. judging from the search I did at Kragen's website, you should have disc brakes front and rear. How can i tell what kind of brake system my 2000 jeep grand cherokee has.?
Your system is, as stated by others, a 4 wheel disc brake system with ABS. The two choices you were given are two different suppliers not two systems. ATE is a big supplier in Europe and Akebono is a Japanese supplier. Given those choices I would choose ATE because I have owned several German cars which used that brand as factory brand.

Hope that helped you decide. How can i tell what kind of brake system my 2000 jeep grand cherokee has.?
The vehicle has standard ABS brakes but has a problem with warping rotors similar to Chrysler products. If you have this problem make sure to clean the flanges that hold your lug studs before re-installing the rotors. Then torque the lug nuts evenly or they will warp again. How can i tell what kind of brake system my 2000 jeep grand cherokee has.?

The VIN will not tell you. They put two different kinds of braking systems on the grand cherokees. if you have a big wire type spring on the outside of the caliper that holds it to the bracket then that is the Continental Teves system. If you have a bracket that totally surrounds the caliper then you have the Akebono system. How can i tell what kind of brake system my 2000 jeep grand cherokee has.?
well, how do you determine what kind of break system anything has? you slap it in the rear (hehe, i love when people slap my rear) than you have to look through the hole, the MUFFLER (not the rectom, you silly beastee) and then you just read the book by william shakespear and listen to some jeffree fuc*ing star and babe, you got yourself the answer of your question *emoticon*

The most accurate way to figure this out is to call the parts department at your Jeep dealer. Give them your VIN (vehicle identification number) and get a price for the pads. Tell them that you heard there are two different types, and ask them which one you have. Then you can either buy from them or shop elsewhere.
